How to Prepare for your Tattoo Appointment
Stay Hydrated Before, During, and After Your Appointment
Hydrated skin improves the tattoo process for both you and for me! After your tattoo is complete, you will want to continue your amazing hydration habit as it will help tremendously in the recovery and healing process.
Arrive Clean and Hygienic
Please shower before coming to your appointment and keep your skin as clean as possible. Tattooing creates a small, open wound and opens the skin up. Cleanliness is very important.
Moisturize Your Skin Days/Weeks Before Your Tattoo Appointment, But Not On The Day Of
Please do not moisturize your skin on the day of your tattoo. Prior to the day of your appointment, please do moisturize your skin consistently.
Do Not Shave or Wax Yourself Before Your Appointment
If needed, I will shave the area for you at the start of our appointment. If you choose to wax the area, please allow enough time for the area to fully heal and recover prior to your tattoo appointment (4-5 days)
18+ Only so Plan Accordingly
You must be 18 years or older and show Government-Issued ID to get a tattoo. Anyone under the age of 18 will not be allowed in the Tattoo Studio, including children, even if they are not going to be tattooed. Although I empathize with all the parents out there, this is a non-negotiable. Please note that I will have to turn you away if you bring your child to your appointment and you will forfeit your deposit. Thank you for your understanding.
Tattoo After-Care
Leave the Bandage On for At Least 2 Hours
I may recommend leaving your bandage on longer, even overnight or multiple days. Do not re-apply bandage. Contact me with any questions.
Clean With Soap and Water
Gently wash your tattoo 3 times daily for the first few days with soap and water. Washcloths or other abrasive materials should be avoided - only use your hands to clean your tattoo. I recommend air-drying your tattoo or gently patting it dry. Use a clean paper towel for pat drying.
Moisturize
Specific ointments (Mad Rabbit, After Inked, etc) and soap will be provided for you to take home. Apply a thin layer of ointment to your tattoo 3 times per day, after you wash and dry your tattoo. Do NOT apply excessive amounts of ointment.
Avoid Soaking
Open bodies of water like swimming pools, hot tubs, and lakes contain chemicals and/or microorganisms that can cause infection and damage to your tattoo. Please wait at least 4 weeks before resuming any of these activities. If you are unsure about something, you are welcome to contact me :)
Be Gentle
After a few days, your tattoo will start to become dry and itchy. Although tempting, please do not scratch your tattoo. Keeping your tattoo clean and moisturized helps reduce itchiness. After 4-5 days, you may use a fragrance-free lotion to moisturize instead of ointment. Both work great at this point.
Sunscreen
After 1 month, you may expose your tattooed area to the sun again. I highly recommend using sunscreen at this point, but not before the 1 month mark.
Taking care of your skin, mind, body, and soul is a life-long commitment. You deserve to be healthy and radiant, inside and out. I invite you to continue your healthy habits for life. Your future self (and tattoos) will thank you.
